Making work for you in 2014!

I rarely partake in Facebook-ish things however, this one struck a deep cord with me.

I was scrolling through Facebook and saw this post

as per my agreement, I hereby promise the following:

I promise to make a small work of art for the first ten people who comment on this post and say "YES, I want in". A 'like' alone is not enough of a commitment, nor is a comment about thinking Pay It Forward is a great idea.

You must in turn post this as your status update and make something for the first ten who comment on your status.

* The rules are simple: it has to be your work, made by you, and the recipient must receive it before 2014 ends.

* It can be anything art-based: a drawing or a conceptual work of art and anything in between. See how that is? SIMPLE.

Yes, you can be on each other's pay it forward lists.

First ten peeps, GO!"

As my friends responded “YES, I want in” I got more and more inspired. Then my friends were also copying and pasting this post. The positive energy was abundant. I’m very excited to make new work this year. Thank you to my friends that continue to push and inspire me. There are 2 slots left! Go to my Facebook page and say “YES, I want in”. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Upcoming Exhibition! Five Elements at Darkroom Gallery

Two of my pieces from my FLIGHT series have been selected for a juried show entitled Five Elements at Darkroom Gallery in Vermont. Even more exciting is one of these pieces, Reflections, was chosen as the Juror’s choice! The juror, Eddie Soloway, wrote a very thoughtful statement.

Excerpt from the Juror’s Statement:

I did my best to approach the submitted images with open eyes and an open mind. I love all kinds of photography, way outside the realm of what I personally create. I was looking for images that made me go “WOW”, and especially, a quiet “wow”. I responded to images that resonated about a place or conveyed a feeling. I appreciated images where the craft of photography was integrated into the finished piece.

The exhibition opens on January 9th, 2014 and goes to February 2nd, 2014. Artist reception is scheduled for January 24th. For more details about the show and other work on view you can visit

Opening Reception of Connecting Ends

I couldn't be more happy with my thesis exhibition last night. Everyone's work looked amazing, the gallery was packed and it was so wonderful to see friends both new and old. I would have to say I really enjoyed looking at my work with Katrine Eismann and Julieanne Kost. Two women I greatly admire for the work they've done pushing both the creative and technological boundaries in photography. Thank you to the MPS Digital Photography department at SVA for all your hard work. My vision would not be realized without your help and support.

Immemorial in Photoshop User

Katrin Eismann featured my work in an article she wrote in Photoshop User Magazine, September 2013, entitled Past Prime. Thank you Katrin!

Excerpt from the article:

Photography relies on an integral relationship with time, as it freezes, blurs, captures, and preserves the intangible presence of the fleeting moment. Many times we use the camera to immortalize the young, strong, powerful, beautiful, and perfect. In contrast, the decayed, crumbling, and faded offer an honest glimpse into our own mortality.

printing week

This week I'm working on printing for our group exhibit entitled Connecting Ends at the School of Visual Arts Gallery on October 23rd 6-9pm. I'll be posting more detailed information about the show soon.
